Separation of Plot and Character Part 1

It is often believed that plot is - basically - what happens in the story.

That assumption is entirely not true.  In fact, character is actually more of what happens in the story.

Why?

Well, for you answer, you'll have to know that roughly, there's about three different plot types.

Romance.

The Man Who Learned Better (Ebeneezer Scrooge for example).

And, The Heroic Quest.

(This is the same as what you'd learn in OYAN, by the way).

Each modern day plot has elements of each of those basic plot types.  And those are plots, what actually happens is plot as well, but here's what isn't plot.

The book circles around the Main Character, and he (or she) learns throughout the book.  That isn't the plot.  And often times, that's the most important thing about the book.

We respect changes in the character.

Hard changes.

Ones that leave the Main Character changed dramatically.

The plot is just to further along what's happening inside the Main Character.

The Character travels from point A to point B (and this isn't traveling physically, though it could be that as well).

In between point A and B, the plot occurs, and that's the only reason the character changes.

(sorry for this rather unhelpful post, I was writing it quickly).

Dwarven-ish song

"Yo ho ho ho
Onward we go,
Forward we go!
Under mountain, under leaf,
Over hill, over brook,
Through plain, through storm.
Yo ho ho ho,
Onward we go,
Forward we go!"

"Through waters we speed,
Through golden fields we lead,
Under mountains, past it's fountains,
towards the land of gold!"

"Yo ho ho ho
Onward we go,
Forward we go!
Under mountain, under leaf,
Over hill, over brook,
Through plain, through storm.
Yo ho ho ho,
Onward we go,
Forward we go!"

So... I got the idea of that from climbing up and down a large hill near our house.  It was snowing a lot, which made it better.  Not a great song, not at all.

But considering that's the first one I have ever made up... I think I can give myself a bit of slack. :P

(It was also inspired from the Hobbit. :)

What has NaNo done to me???

Certain figures this month aren't quite matching up... not as well as I would like them anyway.

Yup, I'm talking about NaNoWriMo.  It's hard work, but I've discovered a lot about my writing style, my characters, and, yes, even myself... although I'm not sure what I found out about myself... :P  Probably something.

I am SOOOOO excited for my NaNo sequel, because that means:  I GET TO WRITE MORE ABOUT MY CHARACTERS!!! WAHOOOO!!!

Lol, but it is fun, and as I introduced two new characters yesterday, I thought this is going to be so fun to write a series on.  Why?  You would be thinking the same thing if you ever met Wedgewink, the funniest Darduffle of them all.

You don't know what a Darduffle is?  Okay... let this explain.

With long, brown ears that flopped back, a hairless head, and long, knotted nose, Wedgewink presented a comical form just looking at one aspect.  He also had large, puffing-out brown eyes, that had strained, blue marks coming across them.
His light brown skin was covered in, at one time, fine clothes, which Wedgewink had preferred to ruin by jumping in mud puddles with joy, and of course for that, he gained a shout or two, or three, or four, or five, or… well, you get the picture.  Wedgewink’s thin body was all the more small after his perfectly round head.  It narrowed down to the mere bones, and his knees always seemed to be bent, adding to his shortness of only four and a half feet.

So, have a image in your mind?  Or are you just thinking that I went crazy?  Probably the result of NaNo, after all, whoever heard of a Darduffle...?  Or, especially, a Darduffle named Wedgewink?  Believe it or not, those names I made up as I was writing them, along with another two character's names.  I seem to do that a lot... :P

So, it's November 3rd and the first time I've posted.

NANOWRIMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah... you can tell I'm excited.

I've got 5,511 words so far, I wanted to have more, since my word goal is 60,000.  Yes... this is going to be tough.  :D

I have an idea of what the Black Sorceress Trailer #2 will be like, but haven't started in consequence to NaNo.

Yeah, that's about all I have to say *smiles meekly*

Good luck writing fellow NaNoer's!!! :D

The Black Sorceress, NaNoWriMo, And Whatever Else Comes To Mind

Okay, so after a while, I have finally scrambled together The Black Sorceress' first trailer.  This one is worse from the original one, but I couldn't transport it from one computer to the other.  So, here is the first, of hopefully some more, TBS (The Black Sorceress) trailer!  :D  Sound is lacking... which is unfortunate, but whateva'.

Yeah, so it's not that good. :/

NaNo News:

I have decided that I will loose NaNoWriMo.  Yes, I WILL loose it.  Quantity is not what I need, I need quality.  NaNoWriMo is focused on getting you to write quantity... that's good, but I can already write quantity, I do not need a motivation.  So, I am just going to go for quality, and if, along the way, I happen to reach the 60,000 word goal <which the odds are incredibly high> then cool!  So yeah, I'm not going to win...

Other news:

DODW will be re-continued in mid-to-late December, sorry. :(

EXCERPTS FROM MY NANO NOVEL COMING NOVEMBER 1ST!  WATCH OUT!!
